So you’ve completed Andrew Ng’s course on Machine Learning offered through Coursera. Now can the Octave code used for the neural network assignment be adapted for the Kagle Digit Recognizer competition and produce a reasonable performing entry?

Look Out For That Tree

Yup. (A much delayed post.) I ran in to this problem working with various tree classifier packages on a course project. It’s one of those problems which causes errors with messages that don’t really seem to point to a label punctuation issue.
